A Tribe Called Chris
This is a dumping ground of digital illustrations, boredom-fuelled doodles, comics and the like. This blog will eventually feature a range of personal projects, namely Good Men Die Quick, an experimental comic project accompanied with a sketchbook. Not to mention anything that ends up on paper that looks decent.

Inked!
Man, it's been a while since I posted anything so I thought I would share something. I took a plunge of sorts recently and drew my first full comic book page. I usually the panels by themselves and compiled them digitally but I found that this method caused a lot more problems than it solved. The ending product seemed disjointed, almost like a collage. You could tell subtly that the panels weren't originally drawn together. The line thickness was all off. I could go on. But the good thing is I think I have a process down that is finally producing results that I'm happy with. All I need to do now is practice my overall drawing skills, especially my inking and mark making. I like to think I've improved a lot seeking as I've only been inking for a short period of time.

A Touch of Colour
Sweet mercy! I have not coloured anything in about four years, even though I really want to get into it. Coloured a Hulk portrait I did recently. Didn't turn out so bad I suppose. The goal was basically to represent some form of basic light principals. Haven't really decided on a colouring style yet so it appears pretty stock and boring. No direction. Hopefully in the near future my colouring develops some pizazz and substance.

Heads Will Roll
I met this guy Steven Segovia who's penciling for Dark Wolvereine, at my local Comic Book Store. A truly talented artist from the Phillipines, lightning quick and and has a crazy style. He did some awesome stuff for New Avengers which was Aneurysm inducing, around when the Civil War Arc kicked off. But I digress. I showed him some of my work and as a feedback he said I should sketch some small portraits to practice drawing small and studying facial structure. I'm not sure this is what he had in mind but it was good practice and didn't turn out too bad. Critiques more than welcome!

Old Cover Concept
Well lookey here! An old cover concept cover I had made about 18 months ago. Ended up on the Office floor so to speak but it's aged OK. Basically no shading or rendering; the idea being that without it, the colorist would have as much freedom as he liked. Possibly painting over the whole thing. Anyways... Thought that it wouldn't make it as a cover, It would be a suitable blog post.

Sketch Book Entry 2
Second entry of the Sketch Book project I'm working on. Some much needed facial studies of Evan Wade's female partner and fellow detective, Elle Lawna. Really struggled with female characters until not too long ago. Last year my female characters looked unnaturally a lot like my male characters. Fortunately, they appear more feminine now and less like lady boys. Critiques and advice
are very welcome, I still struggle a lot with drawing women. Wah.

Rendering Practice
Oh boy! It's your unfriendly neighbourhood Venom. Tried to use as little reference as possible which
kinda shows but I'm somewhat happy with the result. Trying to reduce the amount of rendering
I use after receiving a critique from a Marvel veteran last year at Armageddon, Bob Layton. He was very helpful. And very American. But I digress... Good rendering practice, still not happy with a number of aspects of It but it'll do for now.

Sketch Book Entry 1; Update 1
First couple of pages of a sketch book compiling designs for a comic project I'm
working on, Good Men Die Quick. First page features some facial studies while the second page is just miscellaneous concepts and designs for the main character, Evan Wade. I've been working on the design for some time, longer than the actual comic itself. He's changed and evolved some what since those good ol' days in 2010.
More designs to come for Evan Wade and other characters.
